Nowadays, DIY-ing has become so accessible that everybody’s got some skills. Whether you’re into it to save some money and fix things around your home yourself or you like expressing your artistic side through various mediums, it all comes down to the same basic principles- doing it yourself!
But let’s get one thing straight! It hasn’t always been easy, and some things were inaccessible for a lot of people. Nowadays you can walk into pretty much any craft store to get crates full of supplies but a few decades ago if you needed something done, you had your work cut out for you.
So, since we love DIY-ing so much over on our page, let’s take a walk down memory lane and look at 12 things that forever changed how we DIY.
Family Handyman Magazine
DIY blogs, magazines, and videos are everywhere nowadays. Just one quick google search can give you a treasure trove of information and inspirational ideas. But back in 1951, even the idea of a publishing brand devoted to DIY-in was seen as radical.
That’s when the Family Handyman magazine began publishing, bringing the whole concept to a new level and into the homes of those interested in taking matters into their own hands.
Today, it evolved into a brand many can’t do without, from how-to books to a whole website dedicated to DIY-ers everywhere!
