14 Costly Problems of Old Homes You Should Watch Out For

Asbestos mitigation

It was common practice to use asbestos when building a house, especially homes built before the 1980s. Asbestos can be found in cement, floor tiles, insulation etc. and with time, it gets damaged. Damaged asbestos may release asbestos fibers which can pose a real threat to one’s health, causing a range of health problems including lung cancer and mesothelioma.

Needless to say, you need to find out if your older home has any traces of asbestos in its structural elements. An inspection can cost several hundreds of dollars while removing it depends on how much asbestos was used in the first place.
