Mark Zuckerberg’s Hungarian sheepdog Beast currently has over 2.7 million followers on Facebook. Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan run the page and post photos of the shaggy white dog regularly. That’s a lotta puppy love.
The “Like” button was originally meant to be called “Awesome”. The number of average daily Facebook likes is a massive 5.76 billion.
Facebook shares have climbed more than 43% in the last year. It has a market cap of around $500 billion (£350bn), officially making the company more valuable than retail giant Walmart, which has a $315 billion (£220bn) market cap.
At just 33 years old, Zuckerberg is the fifth richest person in the world, according to Forbes, with an estimated current net worth of around $75 billion (£52bn).
On that note, Facebook generates most of its revenue on mobile devices – with 1.23 billion mobile active users – and it also owns two of the most popular apps in the world. In 2012, it bought photo-sharing Instagram for $1 billion (£700m), which has 800 million active users each month. And in 2014, Facebook paid a whopping $19 billion (£13bn) for messaging app WhatsApp. That app alone has a reported 1.5 billion active monthly users.
Despite Facebook starting in the US, approximately 83.6% of today’s users are outside the US and Canada.
By the end of June 2017, Facebook was heading towards 800 million active users in Asia, by far its largest market, which is pretty amazing given it is banned in China.
