You’re selling a bike on Craigslist and you get a message offering to not only buy it, but to pay beyond your asking price. The only catch: the buyer is in a foreign country and wants you to send it through their shipping company.
To make this a win-win, the buyer sends a check for $2,000 (even though you only asked for $900) for it but with the caveat that you immediately wire $600 to their shipping company to cover the cost of the send. The check arrives as promised and you follow the steps, only to find out the $2,000 check is a forgery and you’re out $600.
