Being poor is, in some cases, passed down through generations, says Luke Landes, a speaker and personal finance writer at Consumerism Commentary. Your parents and their parents before them were poor and you also struggle with the same financial hardships. A poor family “is one of the hardest environments for making progress,” Landes adds.
On the other hand, people who should have a stable money situation may not achieve this goal simply because what they focus on in the present is not in line with what they’ll need in the future. “Making conscious decisions that require some thought about the future isn’t as satisfying at the moment as choosing something that they perceive to have an immediate positive effect on happiness.”
