Just because you get along well with your current doctor, doesn’t mean you can just bash another healthcare provider you’ve had an unpleasant experience. Least of all for your doctor to validate your opinion.
According to an examination of the doctor-patient relationship performed by MDLinx, a healthcare site, “Dr. Jones is a complete jerk” is given as example of something a doctor should never say. Speaking ill about another physician, especially when you’ve only had one encounter, is something you definitely shouldn’t do in front of your doctor.
Obviously, a doctor knows more than you do and you should respect their medical opinion but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have an opinion of your own, within reason, of course. According to AARP, patient-physician relationship could be negatively affected by faulty communication.
Maysel Kemp White, Ph.D., of the American Academy on Communication in Healthcare explains that when patients have an active role in making decisions regarding their health, and the physicians consider their opinions and point of view when drafting their health care plan, there are much better and even faster results.
