You need to make the most of your time inside the doctor’s office. If you have to divide your attention between what the doctor has to say about your medical concerns and your baby squirming in your arms, the outcome of the medical appointment will not be that good.
According to Amir G. Nasseri, M.D., of Santa Ana, California, it might be difficult to find someone to take care of your small child during your medical visit but you’re not doing yourself any favors by bringing your baby with you to the doctor’s office. It will not only distract you but also your physician in a moment when all focus should go on you and your health issues. Do you think you’ll be able to remember anything from what the doctor told you to do after looking after your baby the entire visit?
Sure, you might have seen a commercial on TV about a new, magic supplement or pill to treat your skin problem, asthma or the like. Such commercials are everywhere, it’s not like you can hide from them. But just because you think you’ve found your ideal medication, doesn’t mean you can just ask your doctor to prescribe it to you just like that.
You can ask about the medication but not demand a prescription, says Dr. Lisa Van Allen, an executive coach and spiritual director, author of various materials about chronic pain. If you specifically demand to receive a certain drug, you’ll just look like a drug seeker. Inquire about the effects of a particular medication in your situation, but don’t insist on receiving a prescription.
