‘Both oral and anal sexual practices are risky behaviors for several reasons. The human papilloma virus (HPV), the most common sexually transmitted infection, is spread through semen. HPV is known to cause cancer of the cervix and penis, but it also can cause cancer of the anus and the mouth and throat. Other sexually transmitted infections, such as gonorrhea, can also occur in the mouth and throat.
In addition, repetitive anal sex can harm the muscles that help control defecation, causing a condition called anal prolapse, where part of the rectum sticks out of the body.’ – Elyse Watkins, MD, Assistant Professor of Physician Assistant Studies at High Point University.
