8 Must-Haves During the Coronavirus Pandemic

Water supplies

According to federal authorities, it’s unlikely that the water supply will be affected. However, it’s better to prevent than to treat. Therefore, if you live in a region where access to supplies is limited, it’s a good idea to stock up on enough water to last you for two weeks. This means you’ll need around 14 gallons of water per person.

“People who live in areas with limited access to supplies should make sure they have a 14-day supply of water to last through a possible quarantine”, also says Dr. Irwin Redlener, the director of the National Center for Disaster Preparedness at Columbia University.

The US Department of Homeland Security recommends stocking up on water, but various experts warn that most people don’t need bottled water.

“We are fortunate to live in a country where most tap water is drinkable,” says Dr. Manisha Juthani, an associate professor of medicine of infectious diseases and epidemiology of microbial diseases at Yale School of Medicine. “Based on what we know about this disease, the water system should not be threatened.”
