Who do you think is more likely to win in this situation, you or the retailer? When you see $5 off a $50 dollar purchase and then a $10 off a $100 purchase it’s always the online store that gains more.
As in an earlier example, consumers will feel compelled to buy more in order to benefit from the discount. The higher the purchase amount, the more items we’re likely to add to our cart. Again, we might not immediately need them, but it’s difficult to ignore a good deal.
Trusting one store exclusively is our downfall. Before you get tricked into shopping some more, check out the item you were going to buy initially on other websites. Just because it’s listed somewhere doesn’t mean you won’t find it in a place that isn’t trying to trick you with this tactic!
