Avoid just blindly commenting on other people’s posts. Really think about what you’re trying to say and the message you want to get across when you leave more than a ‘like.’
Be aware that many people use social media as a way to drum up followers, and negative posts can sometimes attract more ‘likes’ than positive ones. Make a conscious decision to follow people and brands who consistently put out positive vibes over those who channel negativity and conflict.
It’s all too easy to click and join a group on Facebook and other networks, and before you know it you’ll be in more clubs than an ‘it’ kid. Periodically look at what groups you’ve joined (and thus which feeds you see), and cull the ones that don’t really serve a daily purpose.
This is a hard one. When deciding what to post, try to follow your heart and not pick your photos or comments based on what you think will earn the most ‘likes.’ A travel writer who suddenly becomes a new mom shouldn’t feel badly losing followers for posting a photo of her baby instead of a mountain peak, just because suddenly her focus has shifted. Honest posts are the best kind.
