Nobody likes a whiner. And when has complaining on social media about some minor injustice you’ve suffered in the course of your daily life (think: “I hate waiting in line at the supermarket!”) ever done anything for you, or anyone else, for that matter? Answer: never. So don’t do it.
You needn’t take advantage of one of the many hotel digital detox packages out there to take a break from social media. Channel your own self-control and put away your devices for the day (or at least a few solid hours) and enjoy connecting with people in person instead of online.
Surely you’ve seen some of your friends post that they’re signing off of social media for a while. And you’ll be amazed what a four- to six-week break from constantly scrolling through your Facebook feed can do for your state of mind. But if you don’t try it, of course, you’ll never know.
What’s worse than watching the couple at the next table over look at their screens instead of each other during a supposedly romantic dinner? Being that couple, that’s what. Plan a tech-free dinner with your partner, family or friends where phones aren’t allowed on the table. And the first person to reach for theirs? They pick up the bill, of course.
