Even though this might seem very logical for all of you, you’ve certainly poked through the carton of berries at least once in your lifetime, trying to remove the moldy ones and eat the rest. Even though this might seem like a good idea at first, it isn’t all the time.
As Schaffner has explained, you can throw away the moldy berries, wash the rest with a lot of water and then eat them without getting sick. However, make sure to throw away the entire berry, instead of trying to cut away the spoiled part and then eat the rest.
So even if the berry is only half moldy, Schaffner recommends throwing it all away and make sure there are no other offenders in the carton. In order to prevent fruits from going bad very fast, you need to store them in aerated containers that prevent them from any moisture.
Additionally, if you want to make your berries last longer, you need to rinse them with cold water and vinegar to eliminate bacteria.
