10 Extra Grocery Costs You Are Not Aware Of

Herbs and Spices

If you are a fan of cooking, you must surely love to use (and buy, of course) herbs and spices. Buying these items from the grocery store, though, may be more expensive than other alternatives, like warehouse clubs where you can buy prepackaged bulk spices.

Also, you can save money while buying herbs and spices, if you go to a natural food or ethnic food retailer that keeps bulk bins. You can just save your old spice jars and refill them with bulk spices. It’s easy and cost efficient. Not to mention the ecological impact, because you won’t just buy a bottle of spices and then just throw it out when it’s finished. Of course, if you don’t want to buy bulk or bagged spices, you can as well just look for generic brands.

For example, a 16 ounce bottle of house brand seasoned salt is available at the grocery store for $3.39, while a bottle of a same brand costs $5.69.
