Pets can contribute to a child’s self-esteem, self-confidence and play behavior. They can teach children important life lessons like responsibility, compassion, trust and patience. Unfortunately, pets, or at least some of them, require a lot of investing. Imagine having to buy a spider, a snake or any other critter for your children’s sake?
For instance, you’ll need a cage, cedar shavings, toys and obviously food for a hamster, but it may not live long enough to enjoy all these perks. More than that, kids usually lose interest in their pets sooner rather than later and parents usually end up being the sole caretakers.
