11 Home-Features Buyers Will Hate The Most About Your House

Converted rooms

If you’ve converted one of the rooms into a recreation game room, the garage into a workshop or the living room into a playroom for your children, you need to turn it back to its original purpose if you’re planning on selling your home anytime soon. If not, home-buyers will need to imagine how the room used to be like, and that’s definitely a big no-no, says Jennie Norris, a home stager and chairperson of the International Association of Home Staging Professionals (IAHSP).

Fortunately, returning the space to its original state is not an expensive endeavor. You only need to clear out the room, move everything out of view and bring back the original furniture, if any, to give the room its shine back.

Your personal interests

You might be extremely proud of your Star Wars collection, figurines and whatnot, your political books or diplomas plastered all over the walls and shelves, but for home-buyers, they will only represent distractions that prevent them from seeing the house properly. This includes family photos on the standard gallery-style wall.

If you have paintings displayed in any of the rooms that might be considered strange or controversial (nudes, for instance), it’s best to store them away as well, suggests  IAHSP’s Norris. Also, if you have vinyl collections or vintage stuff, this might be a good time to cash in on it by selling it on online marketplaces or consignment shops.
