You might not recognize the names Frank McCourt and Jamie McCourt, but this divorce is more dramatic than what you often see on the silver screen, making it a perfect fit for this list.
Frank McCourt and Jamie McCourt met in 1979 at Georgetown University. The couple married in 1979 and had four children together. In 2004, the McCourts purchased the Los Angeles Dodgers. Their 30-year marriage fell apart during their ownership of the team.
The McCourt divorce was ugly, involving a “he said, she said” fight over ownership of the Dodgers and an alleged affair with a Dodger’s bodyguard. The divorce was settled in 2011 for $131 million. Soon after the settlement, the Dodgers were sold for nearly $2 billion in a bankruptcy court-led auction, according to Forbes.
Jamie McCourt attempted to overturn the original divorce settlement, saying she was misled about the value of the team. Her appeal was denied.
