Lingering Library Fines
Another story about credit score gone wrong is that of Liz Weston, NerdWallet’s personal finance columnist and author of the book, “Your Credit Score”. She discovered her credit score dropped considerably because of a library book that was accidentally packed and put into storage. More than that, the late notices were sent to an incorrect address which made it impossible for Weston to find out about the situation sooner.
“By the time I figured all this out, I had a collection on my TransUnion credit report and my FICO score there dropped more than 50 points,” said Weston. She did pay the fines but in the end her credit score recovered.
