Mothballs
Mothballs are a pesticide product that contains high concentrations of naphthalene or paradichlorobenzene as active ingredients. Both of them are considered toxic chemicals that turn into a gas, when exposed to air, and can cause a pungent smell that irritates the eyes and lungs. Some studies have even indicated that they may be carcinogenic.
To prevent harmful side effects, in particular to babies and children, mothball products which include these two chemicals have been banned from several countries such as the UK or New Zealand.
