Borax
Borax is the common name for sodium borate, a salt of boric acid used for decades as an active ingredient in cleaning products. It effectively cleans all types of stains, mold and mildew, kills insects and acts as a fire retardant. Unfortunately, keeping your house clean with Borax comes with the price of your health, and it’s really not worth it!
Among the side effects that researchers discovered, Borax can cause irritation, skin rash, mouth infection, hormone issues, digestive problems, kidney failure and toxicity, according to the National Institutes of Health.
As a matter of fact, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) banned borax as a food additive while the European Union banned several compounds in the borax family ever since 2010.
