17 Foods You Never Knew Were Banned in America

Mustard oil

Have you ever been to an Indian grocery shop? If you have, then you may have seen those large bottles of mustard oil. Though it may be used in many cuisines for its fiery flavor, the FDA has required that all bottles of mustard oil be labeled “For External Use Only.”

Why? Because this type of oil contains large quantities of erucic acid, a monounsaturated fatty acid that can pose serious health risks when consumed in high concentration. Erucic acid has been associated with heart disease in animals as well as cardiovascular issues in humans, respiratory issues, diarrhea, anemia, cancer, coma and even death.
