Shark fins
Shark fins have been on people’s menus for hundreds of years, especially in Asia, but shark finning is as cruel as it can be. “It’s without doubt, the worst act of animal cruelty I’ve ever seen,” says celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay. Finning involves taking the fins from live sharks and then releasing them into the water, to die of blood loss or to get eaten by other sharks.
Finning has been banned in the United States since 2000 but the commercial trade of shark fins has only been prohibited since 2019, only in 12 states, among which California and Texas.
