Sparkling wine
A monk by the name of Dom Perignon from the Benedictine monastery in Hautvilliers, France accidentally discovered the secret of in-bottle fermentation. Hoping to find a more hygienic solution than simple wooden corks for bottles of wine, he conducted an experiment in which he poured beeswax into the neck of the bottle.
Some weeks later, the bottles exploded under pressure, expelling a delicious sparkling wine.
