The famous Popsicle
In 1905, 11-year-old Frank Epperson decided to make himself a drink by mixing powdered soda into water with a wooden stick. His mixture, along with the stick, were forgotten about and left outside during San Francisco’s coldest night of the year. The following day, young Frank discovered a frozen dessert stuck to the stick. He named his discovery the Epsicle and patented it in 1924 under the name Epsicle ice pop. Encouraged by his children, he renamed his invention the Popsicle several years later.
