16. The Woman Who Survived Three Sinking Ships

Violet Jessop, an ocean liner stewardess, could either be considered the luckiest or unluckiest woman in the world. Lucky because she lived to tell the tale of three sinking ships. Unlucky because they can’t have been great experiences.

First, she survived the Titanic in 1912, then the Olympic, which collided with another ship in 1911. Finally, she was also on board of the Britannic when it sank in 1916. In the span of four years, she managed to avoid death’s grasp three times. Perhaps the freakiest part about this is that the three vessels were known as sister ships.

Violet Jessop lived until the age of 83, passing away in 1971.
