These 20 Tips Will Help You Use Media Mindfully

AVOID COMPLAINING JUST TO COMPLAIN

Nobody likes a whiner. And when has complaining on social media about some minor injustice you’ve suffered in the course of your daily life (think: “I hate waiting in line at the supermarket!”) ever done anything for you, or anyone else, for that matter? Answer: never. So don’t do it.

DO A DIGITAL DETOX

You needn’t take advantage of one of the many hotel digital detox packages out there to take a break from social media. Channel your own self-control and put away your devices for the day (or at least a few solid hours) and enjoy connecting with people in person instead of online.

TAKE A PERIODIC SABBATICAL FROM SOCIAL MEDIA

Surely you’ve seen some of your friends post that they’re signing off of social media for a while. And you’ll be amazed what a four- to six-week break from constantly scrolling through your Facebook feed can do for your state of mind. But if you don’t try it, of course, you’ll never know.

PLAN A TECH-FREE DINNER

What’s worse than watching the couple at the next table over look at their screens instead of each other during a supposedly romantic dinner? Being that couple, that’s what. Plan a tech-free dinner with your partner, family or friends where phones aren’t allowed on the table. And the first person to reach for theirs? They pick up the bill, of course.
