How often should you clean your household?

Well, you already know that it is quite difficult to set an exact period when everyone has to clean their house or follow their personal hygiene rules, so, that’s why it is up to you! Of course, you decide when it is time to clean your floor, wash your towels and beddings or brush your teeth, right? But you have to keep in mind that house cleaning should be emphasized especially after you have been sick.

“As everyone is now practicing social distancing, in line with government guidance, you should only need to clean your own home as regularly as normal. Take particular care of kitchen surfaces and bathrooms, especially if someone in your household displays symptoms,” said the experts at Public Health England.

However, you should know that even though there is no an exact period when you should do all these things, there are actually certain general “rules” that you have to take into consideration if you want to stay safe and healthy, especially after you were sick. For instance, towels should be replaced every three days, bedding should be changed once a week, your bathroom must be cleaned often because there are many microbes, especially in your toothbrush holder. In fact, according to a 2011 study done by NFS International, toothbrush holders can contain the highest amount of viral bacteria, germs and microbes in our bathroom.

“Normal cleaning methods do kill this virus. A regular disinfectant is fine to use, although if you are cleaning after a symptomatic person has come into contact with surfaces, use disposable cloths and mop heads and throw them away after use,” said an expert at PHE.

Yet, just because you should clean your home regularly it does not mean that you should spend ages doing it. But the main rule is to clean often the things that you touch all the time.
