6. “Work From Home” Mailed Check
Those popup ads promising that you can make $2,000 a week working from your living room seem like the ideal solution to someone eager for a change or a low-key living. Unfortunately, it is not only probably overselling the opportunity, it might end up costing you money. After clicking through and applying for the job you may get a response, then a check for a few hundred dollars from the “employer”—before you’ve even begun working.
The “employer” will then reach out and tell you they made a mistake in sending it to you and if you could just wire the money from your bank account. The check will bounce and you’ll be out the money.
